Alexandra Méav Jérôme is a Teaching Fellow and Doctoral Candidate in American Studies at The College of William & Mary. She specialises in Islam and gender in Euro-America. Her interests are in conversion, literature, and sexuality. She has taught classes on Women’s Studies, Islam and Gender, and Islam in America. She was trained at Dickinson College, the University of London, and the University of Exeter as an Islamicist. She also spent time at the Universidad de Granada and The American University in Cairo. She is a scholar-activist and member of the Scholars Board of the American Islamic Fellowship and was honoured by Ariana Outreach for Afghanistan‘s scholar-activists in September 2009. In 2011, she was the winner of the Dean’s Prize for Student Scholarship on Women at The College of William & Mary for her thesis on the performance of Islam and gender through belly dancing and photography at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition.
